Calculate the concentration of sodium chloride by determining the amount of silver nitrate required to precipitate all chloride ions.

2. Gravimetric Analysis: In gravimetric analysis, precipitate sodium chloride as silver chloride by reacting it with silver nitrate. Collect, dry, and weigh the resulting silver chloride. Use the mass of silver chloride to determine the amount of sodium chloride in the sample.

Properties of Sodium Chloride

1. Intravenous Fluids: Healthcare professionals commonly use sodium chloride solutions as intravenous fluids (saline solution) to rehydrate patients and restore electrolyte balance, particularly in cases of dehydration, blood loss, and electrolyte imbalances.

2. Wound Cleansing: Sodium chloride solutions are used for wound irrigation and cleansing. They help remove debris, bacteria, and foreign particles from wounds while promoting a healthy healing environment.

3. Inhalation Therapy: Inhaled sodium chloride solutions (nebulized saline) help manage respiratory conditions like cystic fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). These solutions help thin mucus and make it easier to clear from the airways.

4. For Eye Care: Utilize saline solutions to rinse and clean the eyes, including cleaning and storing contact lenses.

5. Nasal Irrigation: Employ saline nasal sprays and solutions for nasal irrigation to alleviate congestion and dryness, especially during colds and allergies.

6. Oral Rehydration: Combine sodium chloride with glucose and other electrolytes in oral rehydration solutions to effectively treat dehydration and electrolyte imbalances caused by diarrhea and vomiting.
